Photographed in 1994, this portrait captures Magda at a pivotal moment in her career, riding a wave of national recognition following the release of Babe. Her comedy, warmth and versatility had made her a household name, and here she stands on the threshold of even greater influence in Australian culture.

This shoot was also a turning point for Who Weekly. It marked the magazine’s first major editorial production, signalling its ambition to rival the gloss and scale of international titles. A full crew was assembled – including four pedigree piglets and the legendary French make-up artist Régis, famed for creating David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust persona. Mid-shoot, a television crew burst onto set to film the opening of This Is Your Life, surprising Magda in front of cast, crew and pigs alike.
