The portrait that defined an era – capturing Australia’s most successful pop duo at the very start of their global journey.
Photographed in 1994 for Who Weekly, this was my first major shoot with Savage Garden – Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones had just signed their first American record deal. Even then, their trajectory was unmistakable.
They were a joy to work with – open, playful and instinctively creative. Here, Darren rested his head gently on a bush and smiled – a spontaneous gesture that gave the image its warmth and intimacy. At the time, conceptual portraiture like this was uncommon in Australian magazines, and editors often demanded a safer option. This frame stood out because it captured not just appearance, but character – two young artists on the cusp of extraordinary success.
A rare opportunity to own a museum-grade print from the very beginning of a global success story.
Produced from a high-resolution scan of the original negative, each print is made to museum standards on archival Hahnemühle fine art paper using pigment inks for exceptional depth, tonal range and longevity.
