An intimate portrait of Sir Donald and Lady Jessie Bradman.
Captured in 1992 at the Bradmans’ Adelaide home, this rare work offers collectors a glimpse into the private life of Australia’s most enduring sporting icon. Available in strictly limited editions, each print is hand-signed, numbered and produced to museum standards on archival Hahnemühle fine art paper.
The portrait reveals a moment of quiet legacy - sixty years after their wedding and just nine years before his passing. It is both deeply human and profoundly symbolic: the nation’s most celebrated sportsman, grounded by the woman who defined his life away from the field.
Held in the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia and the State Library of South Australia, affirming its place in the nation’s cultural record.
Created during the first session of a series I began before leaving for New York, the image was made on Kodak medium format black and white film using only available light. Pushed to 12,800 ISO, the radical choice produced the distinctive grain and atmospheric depth now synonymous with this portrait. The black border reveals the untouched edge of the negative - a nod to Diane Arbus and a declaration of authenticity.
