A rare portrait of Thom Yorke - captured at the height of Radiohead’s creative revolution.
Photographed for Rolling Stone in 1998 during the band’s landmark OK Computer era, this image represents a pivotal moment - when Radiohead were redefining what popular music could be and reshaping the cultural landscape in the process.
The session took place in my North Adelaide home - far from the usual media centres - and was one of the first times a major international act was photographed in Adelaide. That decision challenged expectations and helped change what was possible for editorial photography in Australia.
The final image is unlike any other portrait of Thom Yorke. Composed from five separate frames - full-face, two-thirds, and profile - each was shot on Kodak 120 colour negative film using studio flash, then printed individually, cut by hand on my dining table, and taped together from behind to form a single composite. The finished piece was scanned at high resolution, minimally retouched, and personally approved by the band.
A rare chance to own a piece of the OK Computer era - a moment when music, art and identity shifted forever.
The result is a portrait that captures multiple sides of Thom - vulnerable, defiant, searching - and reflects the restless creativity that defined Radiohead’s OK Computer period.
Published internationally - including on the cover of Rolling Stone Germany - this remains one of the most widely distributed images of my career. For collectors and fans alike, it offers a rare opportunity to hold an authentic piece of Radiohead history from the moment everything changed.
Works from The Sellick Archive are held in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, the State Library of South Australia and other major institutions - a reflection of their cultural and historical significance.
